Are peaches even really in season yet? Anyway, some important (to me, anyway) news of the day:
WHITE HOUSE TRIES TO CIRCUMVENT HABAES CORPUS RULING FOR GITMO DETAINEES (Wahington Post)
The White House and allies in Congress have begun exploring how to limit the scope of this week’s Supreme Court ruling that says suspected terrorists held at Guantanamo Bay have the right to challenge their detentions in federal court. (Washington Post)
This is perhaps this morning’s most important story … The White House has been breaking laws in an arrogant way for the past six years. It is time that they abide by the Supreme Court … this is the third time the Court has told them that their detention center in Guantanamo is illegal without Habeas Corpus. The administration is tarnishing the image of the Presidency, the Judicial System, the balance of power, the US Constitution, and the United States of America.

Gaps in McCain’s Military Record (Huffington)
“I have never heard a story, even remotely, that John McCain was going to be a flag officer. I was early selected for captain, in 1976, and I was regular selected for admiral in 1981. So it’s probably five or six years, I guess. I’ve never heard of anybody being selected for flag rank within three or four years of making captain, ever.” (Huffington Post)
