This is one of the coolest photography blogs I’ve ever seen — highly recommended. The author is named Nick Brandt. This photo is titled “Giraffes Triptych, Maasai Mara 2005.”
And now, your election update:
Senator Clinton’s campaign now $20 Million in Debt …
The Washington Post has an article about the desperate financial situation of the struggling Clinton campaign. “Clinton aides continued to insist that she will remain in the race even while confirming that she is $20 million in debt. “The voters are going to decide this,” senior adviser Howard Wolfson said on “Fox News Sunday,” acknowledging the $20 million figure. “There is no reason for her not to continue this process.”" … I can think of a reason.
Perhaps Clinton will loan herself money again …
Clinton adviser Terry McAulife on Meet the Press suggested the Senator would gladly lend her campaign more money but, so far, they “haven’t needed it.” Also: the Obama campaign took in “$220,000 every day in March. Clinton, on the other hand, had one day in the same month where she took in just under $6,000.”
Obama is shifting focus to the General Election …
The Obama campaign has changed its tone, now focusing on John McCain. This move allows Obama to enhance his role as the likely candidate: “By behaving as if he has finally wrapped up the Democratic contest, Senator Obama may generate fresh excitement among his supporters and lure crucial superdelegates into his camp.” (USNews.com and Politico.com)
McCain shifts away from Bush on Climate Change and the Environment …
In a move probably trying to woo voters in environmentally friendly states, such as Oregon, McCain has endorsed the idea of the US becoming a world leader in fighting global warming.
“I will not accept the same dead-end of failed diplomacy that claimed Kyoto,” McCain said. “The United States will lead and will lead with a different approach — an approach that speaks to the interests and obligations of every nation.” (AFP)
OOPS! Clinton referred to the next President as a “He” …
London’s Telegraph reports that the Clinton campaign is in its final weeks, and that Senator Clinton accidentally said “He” when referring to “the next President…”
In West Virginia, Clinton said, “All the kitchen table issues that everybody talks to me about are ones that the next president can actually do something about, if he actually cares about it.” Realising her faux pas, she added: “More likely if she cares about it!” (Telegraph)
Obama calls for an end to Federal raids of Marijuana clubs in CA, Clinton doesn’t comment …
Senator “Barack Obama of Illinois has become an increasingly firm advocate of ending federal intervention and letting states make their own rules when it comes to medical marijuana.” (San Francisco Gate)
The Website that lists all things younger than John McCain, including: Spam, Alaska, Pat Buchanan, McDonalds, the AARP, Mt Rushmore, Dick Cheney, and so much more … and it’s updated often!
“Sen. Barack Obama, speaking in Charleston, W. Va., all but concedes he will not win Tuesday’s Democratic primary in West Virginia. But he continues to express confidence that he will be the party’s nominee for president and is shifting into “general election” mode.” (NPR News)
Supreme Court Lacks Quorum In Apartheid Appeal: DowJones — “WASHINGTON – The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday said too many justices have conflicts for the court to act in an appeal by 33 companies trying to stop a flurry of lawsuits seeking more than $400 billion from corporations that did business in South Africa during the apartheid era.”
Four Supreme Court justices have recused themselves from the case, which means the lower court ruling will stand, because the US Supreme Court has no quorum (6 justices are required to be present for an appeals case – USC Title 28 Part I Chapter I Section I)
